Objective

  • Develop contact lens with an embedded sensor capable of detecting small changes in the glucose concentration of tears, without the need for power or electronic circuitry
  • Develop cellular phone application to detect and the interpret the changes that occur in the contact lens

Impact

  • Glucose sensing using a daily, disposable contact lens will allow a diabetic to continuously monitor blood glucose levels without expensive supplies and equipment
  • Provide an alternative to current invasive glucose-monitoring techniques
